Sites and Facilities

SAVANNA Ingredients is Europe's pioneer in allulose production – built on proprietary enzyme technology, state-of-the-art facilities, and production standards that meet the high requirements in food manufacturing. From enzyme development to industrial-scale output, every step happens in-house at the site near Cologne, with further investment in production capacity already underway.

Trusted sourcing with full traceability

Feedstock is non-GMO and comes from contract farming under European agricultural standards. It has a traceable origin – built on Pfeifer & Langen's generations-long relationships with regional sugar beet growers. Currently, crystalline fructose is used as the feedstock; a planned production expansion will connect allulose production directly to an existing sugar factory's raw material stream.

Proprietary technology at the core

Allulose is produced by converting non-GMO fructose using enzymes developed and optimised in Savanna's own labs – a patent-protected, proprietary process.

Research and production under one roof

The Elsdorf site combines a biotechnology facility, that has been operating since 2016, with a production plant which has been in operation since late 2020, and certified to FSSC 22000.

Quality assured at every stage

Production is backed by dedicated quality management systems, in-house testing laboratories that monitor raw materials and finished product batch by batch, and an application laboratory where formulation and category trials are run.

Planned European expansion

SAVANNA Ingredients is evaluating a dedicated allulose production facility at an existing European sugar factory site, with a decision expected in early 2027. Producing directly on site would cut out intermediate transport, reduce carbon footprint, and support long-term supply security within the EU.

Currently the only European-origin allulose

This gives Savanna Allulose a distinct benefit with regards to traceability, quality assurance and supply stability compared with suppliers based outside Europe.
